Property tax is a big issue, and many ideas have been put forward to reduce them. Please indicate all that you support, if any.
Increase circuit breaker (relief for seniors, veterans, people with disabilities)
Restore indexed homeowners' exemption
Use impact fees on new development to finance new school construction
Better funding of education at state level so school levies not required
Use internet sales tax to reduce property taxes
Force cities and counties to cut budgets for local services
Other ideas? Explain below.
Other:
Currently Idaho does not allow sales tax on internet purchases to be used to fund state needs (unlike sales tax on store purchases). Internet sales tax is being held in a separate fund until 2024 for unspecified future tax relief. In 2020 alone internet sales tax would likely yield ~$100 million. What is your preference?
Treat internet sales tax like regular sales tax (use for education etc.)
Continue collecting internet sales tax into tax relief fund
Other - please explain below.
Other:
Currently Idaho provides over $2.5 billion of sales tax exemptions, many of which are targeted to particular industries/special interests. What is your preferred approach?
Leave it as is
Sunset all exemptions until examined and reauthorized
Leave existing exemptions but require periodic evaluation of new exemptions
Other / no opinion
